In late December 2010 Queensland's worst flooding in decades resulted in some damage to the railway and it's infrastructure.
The flood caused major damage to the main running line outside the compound and the triangle and minor damage to the rest of the main line. Our track maintenance team working under Cane Railway Engineers Ron Stitt and Ron Atkinson has worked miracles in a short period of time with the help of a contractor with a rubber tracked digger. All main line damage has been repaired.
One span of the timber bridge and the track opposite the FMD house both require major repairs before the final section of track across the road can be linked.
While floors in the training facility have been cleaned and are ok, there was major damage to the walls and the kitchen, computers and printers. The floors and the service pits in the maintenance facility have been cleaned out of mud and are in service again (the pits were full and overflowing). Damage to other equipment, tools and cupboards is still being assessed.
The carriages have all been cleaned and axle bearings greased, while the locomotives have all been cleaned and their axle bearings and bogies greased.
